My last R100

I have been asked to do a post about what I would spend my last R100 on but it has to be just for me.

If its just for me then I would spend R70 on a new release book from Amazon for my Kindle and R30 on a decent bottle of white wine. Then I would sit in the sun (on the beach would be perfect) and enjoy my book and my wine.

Ok after all that wine I would be utterly plonked but I would be happy.

If spa treatments cost less I would have a massage but thats not going to happen;)

So what would you spend your last R100 on if it was purely for you so no charity or gifts?

Ballito

Yesterday when Andrew got home he as usual asked me how my day was..

Me: Great I had a wonderful day

Andrew: Good

Me: Actually now that I think about my computer blue screened a total of seven times, the power was off for over an hour so I couldn't get much done and the government passed a bill that could mean terrible changes for this country. I had a crap day. Lets go for a run then drink it all away.

Andrew: Umm ok I just asked.

So yesterday was not a good day in any world so today I am going to write a positive post.

On Friday we went to Ballito for the weekend to get in some holiday time before the beaches full up and the prices hit the roof. My brother had to be fetched from the airport late Sunday night so it seemed a good oppurtunity.

The weather did not play ball but we did get a nice afternoon on the beach on Friday. Ewan had great fun jumping waves and throwing little stones into the water.

Ewan and Pappa(my Dad)

Friday night my in-laws arrived to spend the night with us as they had spent the day in Durban. We decided to go to Spur for dinner. Never again. I don't mind Spur generally but I couldn't hear myself think over the shouting and screaming. Ewan wanted to be in the play area but there was a large group of bigger boys who were hurting the little ones and not nearly enough minders helping out. I stayed there with him for a bit as he wanted to go on the roundabout then a kid pushed him trying to get him off. It was hell. In the end the adults had a drink and Ewan had a few bites of his Mac n Cheese then we left. I am all for restaurants with play areas but that was ridiculous. The service was also terrible as we only left after 45min there and our food order had still not been taken. Who knows how long we would have had to stay there to eat. In the end we got KFC and had it in the peace and quiet of our flat.

Ewan shared a bed with me that night which he thinks is a huge treat. When he woke up in the morning I got lots of cuddles and I love you Mommy's. So sweet. It rained all of Saturday so we took Ewan to Gateway and he got to spend the day in a trolley car which he loves.

We then went to John Dory's for lunch which was peaceful and the food was excellent. Ewan loved sitting watching the fish in the giant tank and polished off fishand chips from everyones plates after demanding ice-cream which he wouldn't eat. Turns out it was frozen yoghurt.

Sunday morning was back to Gateway to sort out a few things. The day was sunny but the wind was pumping. In the afternoon I took Ewan to the pool and he had a wonderful time splashing and playing. My Dad took him back to the flat when he started to get cold after an hour and I was able to get in some training time for the mile. The wind picked up to the point that there where small waves in the pool. Good training for swimming in a large dam.

In the evening after putting Ewan to sleep for the night my Dad and I went to the airport. We had an hour to kill before the flight so we had a wonderful time walking around Exclusive Books. Good thing I left my wallet at the flat or it would have been a very expensive night. I wanted so many books they where calling out to me to take them home. The flight arrived on time thanks for that SAA. The poor people waiting to pick up people from the Mango flight had to wait another two hours.

In the morning the sun was shining and it was a perfect day and of course we had to go home.  I had a great time with my family and Andrew had a great time working safety for the Ithala Challenge. Its always good to have a little time apart and probably a very good thing in the run up to the crazy season. On Monday he informed me that he is going diving for a week on the 6 Dec. To put it mildly I am not feeling so charitable about that. He didn't even have the decency to make the diving week fall at the same time as his office year end function. At least getting out of that would have cheered me up to the point of smiling and waving and telling him to take another week.

Yesterday I started training for the half two oceans. I don't think in my life I have spent quite so much time running and swimming. Definitely not running. So yes here's to the new fit me. I did shake a bit when I got my race number but I am sure I will make it and love it.

The end of democracy

So today will forever be a blot in South African history. A dark day that saw the end of the freedom of the press. Its Black Tuesday.  Today is full of cold and numbing defeat. We have lost. Who would ever have thought it would really happen? I will be wearing black all week and wondering where to next. What do you think of Black Tuesday and what do you think the future now holds for SA with the passing of the Freedom of information bill.
